This piece truly meant the world to me. My social issue I reflected on is mental health, and depression specifically. I struggle a great deal with depression, and it has ran in my family on both sides for many generations. School has been a constant struggle this past year, as I always feel behind or lacking in creativity or understanding, but not this piece. I was able to display my struggle and my families struggle with depression. As I am having to come to terms but distance myself from this mental illness, I have learned as displayed in this bust sculpture, that I can live with depression, and also live my life. The blue figure is sometimes how I feel, and how my depression lingers over me. The female bust, is my heart and how I look towards my spirituality and God for answers in how to fill my emptiness.
